1. You have to have the right bang for your faceshape. You cannot go just anywhere to get them cut or cut them yourself. You must find a stylist you can trust who is great with fringe and understands your hairline.

2. Cowlicks can cause major heartache, but you can be trained to style out and train a cowlick to behave. Here’s a great trick for home. When your bangs are wet, blow them straight down and side to side against your forhead. This will force any cowlick straight out. You may need to use an iron to really flatten them against your face. Straight is flattering and stylish. DO NOT round brush your bangs and make a bump! That is out unless you are living in the 90s.

3. Don’t’ be afraid to cut bangs because your forhead gets greasy during the day. You may only need to wash your hair 2-3 times a week, but you will probably need to wash your bangs everyday. When you wash your face, wash your bangs and blow then right back out.

4. Don’t use any product on your bangs but mousse. Mousses absorb oil and provide a little control. Waxes, gels, texturizers and hairspray will increase oil production on your face.

As always, be sure to ask your stylist to show you exactly how to blow your bangs at home and set a standing appointment with him/her to trim them regularly so they will be fresh. Growing your bangs too long because you haven’t scheduled a trim will infuriate you and you will not enjoy your new fringe. It’s a commitment, but it’s worth it!

Victoria Beckham’s Dress Collection can be found at Target. Her high end denim collection, formerly known as dVb denim, has been relaunched under the VICTORIA BECHAM label. Victoria’s denim line was released Spring of 2010 and consists of cigarette styles and skinny jeans with glam hardware like studs and zippers in washes ranging from ice blue to stone gray. Styles retail between $295 for a pair of denim-like leggings to $485 for a pair of slim studded-leg jeans. These styles are very hot and may inspire the rest of us to bargain hunt for similar styles for less.

Imperfections and charm will warm you this fall! Question: what’s the opposite of the minimalism trend? Answer: crafts. Everything from chunky knits to crochet, tooled leather and patchwork was seen on the catwalk this season – providing a charmingly flawed aesthetic for those who found minimalism a little too perfect. Crochet was at Christopher Kane and as prints at House of Holland, while Marios Schwab brought leather crafts to a Western-tinged collection. Chunky knits were everywhere – from Chloé to Proenza Schouler and Isabel Marant – with “bigger the better” surely the slogan when it came to yarn. Pick up your favorite – or grab a pair of knitting needles to DIY – today.

Recently the archives of the East German security police, Stasi, revealed their instructions for how to dress inconspicuously as a spy. Let’s just say the results were not very inconspicuous. Maybe they should have watched the 1975 classic Three Days of the Condor starring Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway. Or the new Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy. For the perfect 70s spy look, it’s a must see. Trenchcoats, tweed suits, shearling jackets and great eyewear make for a stylish fall.

Staying warm and stylish this season means touchy-feely fabrics, clever layering and a large dose of inspiration from the North.
Brrrrrr! Do we detect a slight chill in the air? Luckily, this is the season to swathe yourself in all manner of touchy-feely fabrics like fluffy mohair, plush angora and supple leather. What’s more, wearing them with cable knits or outdoorsy prints like buffalo plaid and Fair Isle is mightily encouraged. Because it’s the Great Outdoors where this trend takes its inspiration from and specifically, the arctic climes.

Think of films like Doctor Zhivago and The Golden Compass, in which cozy knits were paired with big fuzzy hats and hooded coats, and you get the picture.
